Analysis of Twitter 

On Mario Falcone’s Twitter he uses a range of languages. The site uses many different features, to help draw people in; they use the site as a way of people communicating with each other, and are a site that helps promote certain businesses and people through tweets and promotional photos.  Many people on twitter including Mario use ‘text speak’ which is the language used by those sending text messages on a mobile phone, but it’s the same on twitter.  There is also the use of ‘vowel omission’ which is where they have left out vowel sounds in textspeak and other technology communication, instead of’ people’ they use ‘ppl’ another example is Acronyms like’ lol’ which really stands for ‘laugh out loud’, this is used to shorten their speak with technology which has also affected our language as people use shorten words instead of the actual word. Some of language that is used on twitter are phrases that replace sentences, there is also no spell checking with what people have written and many people use punctuation in their own way. Most of the language used on twitter is colloquial as people come across very chatty.

On twitter they use Homophonic representation, Mario on his twitter used this on his twitter and tweeted ‘good morning…2nd night’ when he could of used ‘ second night’ but they choose to shorten their words, as they only have a character restraint on the social networking site which encourages more people to speak like they do on technology.   The audience is clear as it’s mainly adults and teenagers that are interested in Twitter. The main purpose of the social networking site is for the public to post and tweet their ideas and feelings online for everyone to see. It allows people to keep in touch, getting feedbacks on ideas immediately and helps share multiple points of views. Twitter causes many teenagers and adults to become obsessed with social networking, rather than communicating in life experiences with face to face communication. Twitter language also affects the way people write in school, colleges and work as people are spending time on twitter and picking up the language used on their.

Analysis of the guardian online

The guardian online has been designed and written specifically.  The web page includes many features, to help draw readers in. An example of a feature that is used throughout the webpage is the graphology as this is there to help support the persuasive language that is used. The layout of the page immediately shows that it is a webpage; the strip along the top of the webpage has been designed to be read in a specific way, as the strip with the different tabs have been ordered. They have been deliberately placed in that order to read from left to right, as they have made it the readers priority to read it in that order. One of the tabs along the top is called ‘women’ but there isn’t one for men, which shows they think there is more information that mainly women would be interested in. They have a weather section situated at the top of the page which has a destination already chosen which is London, as it’s the capital and they feel it’s where most people need to know the weather about. 

The webpage comes across in a formal but is also colloquial. The audience is clear as it’s mainly adults that want to be kept up to date with the news that is going on. The main purpose of the Guardian is to inform readers about the latest news and updates that are going on around the world. The breaking news bar allows the website to be completely up to date, which is how the technology informs the language and instantly creates a purpose. The webpage has one main image as soon as you go onto the page, which is where the main headline is placed; it is also the first feature that draws the audience in to find out what it is about. The main story about the ‘vagina stadium’ on the webpage has been put in different coloured writing and is bold so it stands out more. The webpage could be consumed in multiple situations, people could read the text whilst travelling and using there tablets or laptops as the guardian website is quick and easy for people to read if they don’t have enough time.
